Editors and more
Posted: January 22, 2010 Next meeting of DoCC is at 7:00 pm, Tuesday Feb. 2, 2010 at Buddy's Backyard restaurant. Come at 6:00 to order food and/or socialize! Buddy's Backyard is at 1140 N. Walnut Ave. one
block south of loop 337 Note from DoCC President: DEMOCRACY BELONGS TO THOSE WHO SHOW UP This is an important
meeting. Call a friend or two and urge them to come. We will discuss the importance of voting in the
primaries. You will meet the people in your your Precinct and your
Precinct Chair. You will be asked to participate in getting out the vote
by calling from a list of voters that have voted Democratic in the past.
(We don't waste our time calling Republicans) It is a great opportunity
to get to know other democrats in your neighborhood. In Texas you don't select party preferance when you register to vote. YOU JOIN THE COMAL COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY WHEN YOU VOTE IN THE PRIMARIES! Then you become an active participant in running the Comal County Democratic Party when you attend the Precinct Convention immediatly after the polls close. (the precinct convention is at your polling place) The Democratic Party doesn't belong to you unless you show up. Bob Peterman First Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. General meeting. Third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. Board meeting. For a complete listing of upcoming events and more, check out the What's Up DoCC? Monthy Newsletter. Letter to the Editor from DoCC Member David Smith-- U.S. Census Bureau reports within the past year show that Texas has the highest percentage of those without health insurance in the entire country. We know that people who view health care as nothing more than a ‘For-Profit-Business’ are sadly out of touch with reality. These profit-oriented folks are quick to label anything involving our government as “socialism”. Now our own Governor has put his two cents into the discussion by making another outlandish statement similar to his recent idea that Texas might have to secede from the United States. Before the U.S. Congress has even had a chance to vote on a bill to reform the broken ‘For-Profit’ health care system in our country, Gov. Perry has gone way out there again saying he plans to “reject” any U.S. health care reform here in Texas …because of “states rights”. No doubt, Perry’s intended audience for such crazy remarks is his (shrinking) base of political support within the far right-wing of the Republican Party. However, most normal citizens of Texas feel embarrassed by Gov. Perry’s weird politics…especially when he risks hurting the very Texans he was elected to represent. Did you know that buildings, not cars, produce the most CO2 in the U. S.? According to an article in the current issue of National Geographic magazine, private residences, shopping malls, warehouses and offices account for 38% of the nations's emissions. Part of the problem is that the average house in this country is an astonishing 45% larger than it was 30 years ago. Check out the entire article Saving Energy Starts at Home and what you can do to reduce your own carbon 'footprint'. One of the most readily available methods to us living here in Central Texas is to simply hang the clothes out to dry rather than tossing them into the dryer. During our typical suumer, they'll dry in no time! |

Public Education was one of the major thrusts of my previous campaign efforts. After much thought and discussion I have notified the Texas Ethics Commission of my intent to seek election to the Texas State Board of Education. Success can only come as the result of an active campaign that gets our message to the people. I ask for your advice and support. Both are critical now that success in 2010 can be a reality. The Republicans know that we are a force to be reckoned with. Let's show them that we can get the job done by having a Democratic candidate for each position on the ballot and by working for their election. I join my fellow Democrat candidates in thanking you for your volunteer and financial support. Daniel Boone Announced Candidate Texas State Board of Education. Boone for Texas.
